From the very beginning, Emmett Carmichael’s concept for Apres was not
solely driven by offering great food and drink but by creating community. He
wanted Apres to be the friendly Peninsula Neighborhood gathering place...the place to drop in after work or before going to Hancher or just to sit at the
U-shaped bar, designed for conversation, and get to know the people beside you at the bar and living beside you in the neighborhood.
Emmett gets satisfaction when patrons feel recognized--as in the waiter knows
your drink before it is ordered; you ask the people at the next table about their kids; singles sit at the bar knowing they will see an acquaintance on the other side. And of course the communion of good food and drink. About half of Apres clientele are Peninsula residents and Emmet would love that to increase. He feels Apres can be a foundation for the Peninsula Neighborhood in bringing people together.
Staff are a big part of Apres friendly atmosphere and Emmett feels very lucky to have great staff. His General Manager, Brittany, is his right hand partner in both Apres and in life. They work hard to be present and welcoming when patrons walk in. Apres hosted the Neighborhood Christmas party last year and Emmett has energy and enthusiasm dedicated to thinking about working with
the Neighborhood to mount larger parties and events.
Apres (opened Summer of 2015) has moved from a wine bar to a tapas/wine bar to a bistro with an expanded menu including entries. It’s hard, now, to imagine the Peninsula without Apres. The little bistro has become an integral part of our community...worthy of our support.
Another spring/summer is coming and we can soon spend lovely evenings, watching the sun go down, on the Apres patio. I hope to see you there!!
Open Tuesday - Thursday from 5 until 10, Friday - Saturday from 5 until 11.
